take a peek at the family behind Sweet Pea Photography...

Most of the time when I look through my viewfinder, I see someone else's family...  so this blog gives me a new reason/excuse/opportunity to pick up my camera and see the people I love most in this world... my family!  Thanks for joining me here - isn't the view beautiful?!

mmmmm…???

Well, I can’t take credit for this shot! After making pancakes for breakfast (from scratch – and they turned out great!), Sky and the girls went to the Farmer’s Market in Urbana this morning, while I was busy with some sessions in Monticello and Champaign — and it looks like I missed out on a tasty adventure! Averhy certainly enjoyed this peanut butter muffin – complete with chunks of chocolate as well I think? A yummy start to a BEAUTIFUL day!

October 8, 2008 - 5:48 am Sky - Yep, that was me (Sky writing on Allyson's computer). What she and Eden really wanted was a drink, which daddy failed to think about when purchasing said peanut butter muffin...

October 7, 2008 - 2:05 am Grandma - hummmm. Makes me wonder if she is eying what she wants next!

October 5, 2008 - 2:33 am mema - Farmers market sure looks like fun and tasty, too! What other goodies did you get there? Did Sky take the picture? mom

…but Boston is fun!!

Last weekend our family took a road trip to Boston, so I could attend the Secret Photography Workshop and we could also visit my cousin David and his family (I’ll post some pics from that later.) While we were there, we took the opportunity to have some family pictures taken by my (new) friend Emily Nelson of At Last Images — aren’t these awesome shots that she took?!? Thank you so much Emily! If you live in the Minneapolis area, you should definitely check her out the next time you need family pics!! Although it was a LONG drive (we had to split it into two 9-hour days) the girls did great in the van (thank you DVD player) and we got to spend the night with our friends Carl and Elsie Smith on the way out (thanks for the tasty breakfast!). On the way back, we stayed at a hotel near Niagara Falls, and took the girls to see the falls (again, pics later…) then back on the road. Interesting tidbit… tried to stop for gas and food in Dayton, OH… but many gas stations were out of gas and all the fast food places were closed because they didn’t have power! I guess the storms that weekend knocked everything out… so we did finally find $3.99 gas (had to wait in a bit of a line) and snacks for supper at Meijer! It was a fun weekend — went by too fast though, and we’ll definitely have to go to Boston to visit again!

September 23, 2008 - 2:09 am Aunt Melanie - yeah, that's kind of a scary face eden has going on there. and i can't believe how blonde she looks there. but the pics are great, i love the one of you guys all walking, so classic.

September 23, 2008 - 2:03 am Randy - Don't all good things come from Minnesota?

September 20, 2008 - 8:46 pm amanda - wow. eden. intense.

September 20, 2008 - 5:08 pm mema - Also, how did it feel to be on the other side of the camera?

September 20, 2008 - 5:07 pm mema - These are awesome pictures, but I personally know a better photographer. Glad you had a good time and can't wait to hear about it and see more pictures. Hoping to stop for the night on Wed. Will that work for you guys? Love and Blessings, julie

seasickness is not fun…

…but we still managed to have a good weekend on the boat! We drove up to Racine on Sunday afternoon — stopped by to visit Tracy and Ian in Chicago on the way — and then enjoyed supper (with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Linda and Uncle Greg, and Greg’s friend Bill) at the Charcoal Grill. Had a pretty good night’s sleep on the boat… once Eden eventually fell asleep around 10… or 11… And then set sail in the morning around 10:30 or 11am after the rest of the group arrived (Will & Becky Marshall & their granddaughters Sloane & Vada; and Uncle Adam). It was wavy… and bumpy… and rolling… hence the seasickness. But once we got back to the dock, we all felt better and had a great lunch – complete with Oreos that Eden is showing off all over her face! So, several “firsts” this weekend on the boat… most people to spend the night (9)… first/most cases of seasickness (3)… first time that the Marshall’s and their granddaughters sailed with us… All in all, a memorable sail for our last sail of the season.

September 18, 2008 - 2:24 am mema - What great fun!!! We are sure missing you all. Looking forward to our time with Eden. What a cutie. mema

September 5, 2008 - 10:54 pm amanda - was there lots of puking? how exciting. hopefully kevin and i will be going up there right before mom & dad take it out of the water. . .

evidently, unicorns are blue.

Last Saturday the girls and I went to the Farmer’s Market again — just a quick trip this time because it was H-O-T! Averhy got her face painted (a blue unicorn – lovely) and commented that the lady painting it must have seen a unicorn sometime in order to know what one looks like. Eden chose to pass on the face paint, but enjoyed the ice cream a few minutes later… But the weather is keeping us on our toes lately… after a hot weekend, it was an autumnal (good word!!) start to the week, so this shot of Eden is in our kitchen earlier this week – wearing one of her fall dresses and playing with stuff in the cabinet, as usual…

September 3, 2008 - 2:10 pm amanda - your kids are just cooler than other kids. send me a unicorn. c/o NSCF 807 W. Ward Ave High Point, NC 27260

August 29, 2008 - 11:13 pm mema - Wish I could be there to share the fun days you are having. Thanks for the photos to keep us up to date. Blessings, julie

first day of school!!

Tuesday was Averhy’s first day of school at Judah Christian school in Champaign — her second year of preschool — and boy was she excited! She had a great time in the “peace” class, and loved her new backpack. A few friends from church are also in her class (Addi and Korbin), as well as some friends that we met this summer at the pool! I know she’ll have a great year.

August 26, 2008 - 11:36 pm papa - I just have to say that you sure make beautiful children.

August 24, 2008 - 6:53 pm Grandma - You are growing up sooooo fast! I can't wait to hear what your first week was like! Love you! Grandma

August 24, 2008 - 2:56 am mema - Growing so quickly. What an exciting time. Lots of Love from California. mema

reminiscing at old settler’s

On Saturday morning, the girls and I drove up to Cissna Park where my aunt and uncle live. After a quick stop at their farm to look at the cows, we headed into town to watch the Old Settler’s days parade. We met up with my cousins Rachel (in the middle) and Carrie (on the left) and Carrie’s son Caleb — who was very excited to see Averhy and Eden even though we had just visited him on Thursday to go to the Children’s Museum in Bloomington! (Silly me, I forgot to take my camera on that outing…) The kids had fun watching the parade and getting lots of candy (which tells you how small Cissna Park is, that they can still throw candy during a parade!). After the parade, the girls and I got lunch in the town square and then Averhy went on some carnival rides — much smaller and more little-kid-friendly than the Fisher Fair rides, so she wasn’t scared at all this time. A fun Saturday!
Oh — and the reminiscing part — when I was maybe 6 or 7, a bunch of my cousins and I were actually in the Old Settler’s parade on a float that my aunt and uncle made. It had a little red barn on it, like the barn on their farm, and a sign that said “Corn, cows, cackleberries, and cousins!” Ah… memories…

August 19, 2008 - 10:18 pm mema - What a fun time. Is there a picture from when you were in the parade? Love, julie
