reminiscing at old settler’s

On Saturday morning, the girls and I drove up to Cissna Park where my aunt and uncle live. After a quick stop at their farm to look at the cows, we headed into town to watch the Old Settler’s days parade. We met up with my cousins Rachel (in the middle) and Carrie (on the left) and Carrie’s son Caleb — who was very excited to see Averhy and Eden even though we had just visited him on Thursday to go to the Children’s Museum in Bloomington! (Silly me, I forgot to take my camera on that outing…) The kids had fun watching the parade and getting lots of candy (which tells you how small Cissna Park is, that they can still throw candy during a parade!). After the parade, the girls and I got lunch in the town square and then Averhy went on some carnival rides — much smaller and more little-kid-friendly than the Fisher Fair rides, so she wasn’t scared at all this time. A fun Saturday!
Oh — and the reminiscing part — when I was maybe 6 or 7, a bunch of my cousins and I were actually in the Old Settler’s parade on a float that my aunt and uncle made. It had a little red barn on it, like the barn on their farm, and a sign that said “Corn, cows, cackleberries, and cousins!” Ah… memories…
