take a peek at the family behind Sweet Pea Photography...

Most of the time when I look through my viewfinder, I see someone else's family...  so this blog gives me a new reason/excuse/opportunity to pick up my camera and see the people I love most in this world... my family!  Thanks for joining me here - isn't the view beautiful?!

birthday girls

Okay, so I know it has been a long time since I’ve posted. Oh well. When you have a 4 year old and 1 year old keeping you busy, that happens. That’s right – 4 and 1! We celebrated birthdays this month, so here are a few pics from the fun days.

Eden’s birthday was Feb. 10 and we celebrated with all the grandparents. She enjoyed her cupcake – ate it all up and asked for more – and Averhy was excited to have some (lots) of presents to open as well, since her birthday is just 2 weeks after Eden’s.

For Averhy’s big day, we had a princess party for Averhy and Addi

(whose bday is 2/25), along with some of her friends from church. The girls had a blast dressing up as their favorite princesses (almost all of the Disney princesses were represented), painting their nails, and playing “how low can you go?” (the limbo).

Eden is getting so big – she can say mama, dada, hi, bye-bye, na-nah (banana), “where is it?” and signs “more”, “please”, “milk”, and “hug”. She can also tell us what some animals say – puppy, elephant, sheep, and kitty (although for kitty, she just clicks her tongue, because that’s what we do to call the cat!) She is such a joy – always so happy! okay, not always, but mostly! Eden isn’t quite walking yet, but is getting closer. Last Thursday (2/21) she took three steps toward me at the playground! (Okay, she was mostly falling forward while happening to move her feet… but it’s progress.)

Averhy is excited to be four, but she’s already talking about her next birthday! She decided today that she wants that party to be “when we wear regular clothes” instead of princess outfits. She is such an independent kiddo – we often comment that she really doesn’t need us until about lunchtime since she can’t fix a pbj by herself!

Well, it’s time to pick up Averhy from school – so back to it I go!

February 27, 2008 - 6:14 pm Mema - Thanks for the pictures of Averhy's party. Sure looks like they had fun. Did you make the Barbie cake? I will have to see the sign for 'hug'. I didn't know she knew that. Blessings to all the Princesses. Mema

let’s talk…

Well, once again it has been over a month since my last post… and seeing as how this is supposed to supplement my scrapbooking… and the last scrapbook page I finished was for April… things are not looking good!

Anyway, some big changes around our house… Eden is starting to talk!  She can say “mama”, “dada”, “ba-bye”, “ha-yah” (hello), and I think I heard her attempt “kitty” yesterday.  She waves at everyone including the cat (too cute) and just last week started putting the toy phone up to her ear and saying “ha-yah” — which is how I know that means hi!  Plus, she knows the sign for “more”, which is very helpful at mealtimes. So much fun.

The recent snow has also been lots of fun.  Averhy and I built a snow princess, which (mostly) lasted through the rain and ice last week, until Averhy went out to play in the snow yesterday and pushed it over.  Time to build another! We are busy getting ready for Christmas around our house, and Averhy’s program at school will be this Weds, and her church program will be Sunday.  I’ll post some pics afterward.   Last week, aunt Amanda and her friend Kevin took Averhy to a movie at the movie theather!  Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium… a big hit, and Amanda definitely qualifies as a cool aunt.  Tonight we’ll all go to the illini basketball game, so we continue to stay busy, busy, busy!

December 18, 2007 - 9:26 am Randy - Post a picture of the church kids program if you don't mind. We will miss it since we will be back in Minnesota. Silly snowstorm!

bibbity-bobbity-BOO!

Despite some runny noses early in the week, we had fun at Curtis Orchard taking our fall family picture on Sunday.  It was a beautiful day and hopefully we’ll have many more like it before it gets too cold outside.  Monday evening we carved pumpkins with the Rice family again this year.  Colin chose to make a pirate (complete with eye patch) while Averhy drew a girl with eyelashes.  Sky (always creative) made a face out of the word “Boo!” and Allyson carved her traditional silly faces, reminiscent of nightmare before christmas characters.  Then on Halloween, we spent most of the evening at the Fall Fun Fest at church —  lots of fun again this year, with our beautiful Cinderella and silly little monkey.

In other news… Averhy is no longer pronouncing movie as “noovie”… kind of sad to see that go…  And Eden is getting quite adept at crawling up stairs and wrestling with Daddy!

Happy Halloween!

November 5, 2007 - 11:11 am Mema - I, too, am sad to see 'noovie' go. We love that word. But I guess that is a part of growing. Melanie used to play 'hide and sneak', but no longer. mema

November 4, 2007 - 12:59 pm Randy Kleinman - It is good that Sky is creative. Karen groans when she sees that my preferred design for carving pumpkins is an equation.

time for the corn maze!

On Friday, it was time for our annual outing with the Nash family to the corn maze at Hardy’s Reindeer Ranch in Rantoul.  It’s hard to believe that we’ve been doing this for SIX YEARS!  After loading up everyone (front: Cara, Ashton, Cullen, Eden, Averhy; back: Mike, Melissa, Sky, Allyson) , we headed north and got to the maze around 7pm.  Cara, Cullen, and Ashton (Cullen’s good friend) were excited to be able to run through the maze on their own this year – such big kids! – and were determined to beat the adults!  It was certainly not as cold as some years (thank goodness) and there were lots of people out in the maze.  Averhy commented a few times that she was feeling a little scared (it does get quite dark out there!) but she did a great job holding the flashlight and “leading” the way.  Although we didn’t find all of the hole-punch stations in the maze, the kids did and were glad to flaunt their accomplishment!  Afterwards, we headed back to our house for some pizza, buffalo wings, and hot chocolate for the kids.  It was a great evening and a fun tradition to continue!

October 22, 2007 - 4:20 pm Mema - I just figured out that there are pictures to go with the blog. When things were underlined I thought it would take you to a different site about that word. How come if I am looking at a picture there are related words under it but to click on it takes you to a 'google' type site? See you all on Thursday night. Mema

fun at the firestation

Last Wednesday, Averhy’s class took a fieldtrip to the Savoy Firestation – so Eden and I tagged along to enjoy the fun!  Both girls did a great job listening to Firefighter Rachel explain about her firefighter suit (Averhy even tried it on) and what to do if your clothes catch on fire.  When Firefighter Rachel asked the class what they should do if there is a fire in their home, Averhy was the only one who raised her hand and answered “Get out of your house.”  (Can you tell I’m a proud mom?)   Outside, Averhy got to climb up into a real fire engine, touch a fire hose, and count the flashing lights. Eden was content crawling around and riding in the bjorn.  Although it was a COLD day, everyone had a good time!

october already?

Well, a sure sign that your kid(s) are in school:  life gets busier, even though on paper you have more “kid-free time”.  The fact that it has been a month since I’ve blogged is a testament to this…

September was a fun month.  Averhy is having a blast at school and really enjoys her class, despite getting “stepped on” one day and scraping up her leg another day.  They’ve already taken a field trip – to Curtis Orchard to pick apples – and had a special “Winnie the Pooh day” as well.  Next week her class goes to the fire department, and I’m hoping to go with them, if Eden is in a happy mood.  Usually she is falling asleep in the car as we leave Averhy’s school, and after she naps (and I clean up the house as she sleeps) we try to squeeze in a quick trip to the gym before picking up Averhy.  As I said, the “kid-free time” disappears quickly.

Eden had some fun milestones in September – after she learned how to wave in August, she really mastered it in September, and near the end of the month she added clapping to her list of skills.  She is also a climber – just last week I went in to her room to get her up from her nap… and found her STANDING and hanging on to the crib rail.  and she won’t be 8 months old til next week.  eek!  I don’t know if I can handle a 9-month old walking around here!

We were able to all go up to my parents’ boat in the middle of September, for a chilly but fun weekend of sailing.  Sky’s parents were able to come too, and the girls did great. The waves rocked Eden to sleep, and Averhy had fun riding the waves… and there were some big ones!  It is such fun going out on the boat, and we can’t wait until next summer when it’s down in the Gulf (hopefully!).

Last weekend, Sky and I attended Helen and Allen’s wedding in Chicago (beautiful!) and the girls spent the day with Papa and Aunt Melanie & Uncle Ismael – at the Morris CornFest Carnival!  Averhy was excited to report that she went in the bouncehouse, on the carousel, and she even won a stuffed animal dolphin by playing a game… oh, and we can’t forget about the delicious “fluffy stuff” (cotton candy).

Now we’re looking forward to October!
