take a peek at the family behind Sweet Pea Photography...

Most of the time when I look through my viewfinder, I see someone else's family...  so this blog gives me a new reason/excuse/opportunity to pick up my camera and see the people I love most in this world... my family!  Thanks for joining me here - isn't the view beautiful?!

i love you, but…

Can we go outside? (more on that title in a minute) Anyway, it’s finally spring! So I think that means it’s time to celebrate! Thank goodness for warm weather. Last night we were able to enjoy the evening with a walk around the block and an attempt to fly a kite… although the breeze had died down and our sailboat kite required a bit more wind than we could provide just by running. Perhaps we’ll try again today, after we plant the garden! The girls are napping right now (Eden is a bit grumpy because it’s no fun having 4 teeth grow in at the same time, while Averhy is fighting a cough) but I’m expecting them to wake up any minute now and be ready to go outside. We’re going to grow some tomatoes again this year, along with whatever else we can squeeze into the garden. We went to the store this morning (in our new-to-us minivan! But that’s a story for another blog day) and we bought seeds for carrots, onions, peppers, and a ton of flowers… but since we’ve allowed the strawberries to take over half of the garden, I’m pretty sure not all of the seeds we bought will fit! (Okay I can’t figure out how to rotate this image. but you get the gist of it…)

Oh, and just a little funny… one of Averhy’s most common phrases is “I love you, but…” as in “Mom, I love you, but… can I have a Nemo fruit snack?” or “Mom, I really love you so much, but is tonight movie night?” …I think the phrase usually prefaces a request she’s hoping I’ll say “yes” to! Cute.

Well, there’s Eden starting to squawk… so outside we go!

April 29, 2008 - 11:18 am Randy - So I had a nice long comment about our garden, and then Firefox crashed and I lost it all. Suffice it to say that we planted our garden on Saturday and I hope it makes it through the 10 minute ice/hail storm we had yesterday. We cut way back this year with only tomatoes, peppers, a cantaloupe, and basil.

April 26, 2008 - 7:00 pm Mema - You are always so clever with your titles. Can't wait to see the garden grow and Eden's new teeth as well. Love and blessings, mema

okay, Randy…

so Randy made a comment last night at praise band practice about my blog.  and i know i’m not as good at the whole blogging thing as the Kleinmans are… and I really don’t know how they find time to blog so often (I sat down last night and started writing this… and now it’s 8:22am…)  But anyway, here’s a quick post for Randy!

Yep, Eden still just has one tooth – barely at that.  But you can see it and feel it, so it counts.  It hasn’t really bothered her that much still, so hopefully that will be the trend!  One fun thing this week…

This is one of the shots from her “modeling portfolio” I suppose you could say!  Our friend Jennifer is opening a new boutique children’s clothing store next month – Bella Bambini – and I’m doing the product photography for her… so that means Eden (as well as other kids we know) gets to model the clothes!  So if you have a kiddo under 2 years old and you’d like them to join in this fun, let me know!  And for me it’s double the fun because I have an excuse to spend time doing a real photo shoot with Eden.

Okay, that’s your tidbit on the Sanborn family for today Randy!  Now it’s off to get dressed and get Averhy to school… and go to the gym… and do some work… and on and on and on…

April 15, 2008 - 3:53 pm Randy - I feel so loved... Again, Eden was so cute in the nursery on Sunday. It is easier to get roped into nursery duty when cuties like here and Gracie are in there.

a tooth has appeared!

Yes, that’s the latest news around here… Eden has a tooth!  Or at least a little hard white line on her upper gum that is sure to become a tooth soon…  She will be 14 months old in 3 days, so her teeth are appearing right on time, based on when Grandpa got his first tooth as a baby (according to Grandma).  Thankfully, her mouth doesn’t seem to be bothering her at all.  The other end however…

Last week, the girls spent several days with both sets of grandparents, while Allyson was at a photoshop conference in Florida.  They had a great time, despite giving Grandma, Grandpa, and Mema the 24 hour flu! Oh well… thank you for putting up with it G, G, M!!  We got back home Saturday evening to an empty house – Sky was at a mens retreat with church til Sunday – but now we’re all back together and on the road to healthiness again.  It’s fun to get away a bit, but also fun to get home and sleep in our own beds!

April 8, 2008 - 2:29 pm Mema - It was great to have Averhy and Eden last week. Sorry we had to pass them off so quickly. I am all better and Papa never got it. Looking forward to next time, Mema

He is Risen!

He is Risen indeed!

We had a busy Easter weekend, complete with Easter egg hunt, time with family and friends, and most importantly – much celebration over the resurrection of Jesus Christ! Praise God!

The weekend began with a phone call on Friday night – Megan (Allyson’s cousin) was heading to the hospital to hopefully have a baby… so I got on the road to Morris with the intention of photographing a birth for the first time! Of course, the contractions slowed down and the doctor sent them home, but I went ahead and spent the night at Sky’s parents’ home in Morris – just in case the baby decided to arrive in the middle of the night (it didn’t). So on Saturday I went to a wedding shower for another cousin (Rita) before heading back to Champaign… here at home, Sky and the girls made Easter egg cookies and enjoyed their day. I got back just in time for Sky to drive to church to practice for Saturday night service, and then the girls and I met him there just a bit later. The service went well!

On Sunday, we headed off to church to do two more services – again both went well. Hopefully lots of people were able to understand the Gospel message for the first time (or the hundredth time) and realize that no matter how far away from Jesus we might feel… he is really standing at the door of our hearts, knocking and waiting for us to let him in! After church we had lunch with my sister Amanda and her fiance Kevin

(they got engaged last week!) before some afternoon naps and wedding planning. Then it was back to church to hang out with friends and have dinner (we all figured that since we’d been at church all weekend, might as well REALLY be there all weekend!) It was a great time and fun to just hang out and chat and enjoy each other.

I hope your Easter was joyful too!

March 25, 2008 - 9:29 pm Randy - Eden was so cute in the nursery when we were in there second hour on Sunday. She was the happiest baby there by a long shot. She seems to be content with her lack of teeth!

March 24, 2008 - 10:49 am Mema - Thanks for the beautiful picture of you all. And congratulations to Amanda and Kevin. Don't think we have met him, yet. When will the wedding be? Happy Easter, indeed!!! mema

weekend fun

So today, after watching Averhy look through her scrapbook and reminisce about the good days of being two years old, I felt guilty that Eden’s first year scrapbook is far from finished… and she’s over 13 months old now (still no teeth, by the way). Then I spent some time looking at the blogs of some of our friends, and feeling guilty that I neglect mine! So I decided to set some goals for myself for this year… New Year’s Resolutions much belated I guess. So here they are (so if I don’t stick to it, then I have you to blame as well?)…

1. I’m going to spend the first part of Eden’s morning nap on MWF blogging. If she doesn’t take a nap, I won’t blog, but that’s a valid reason I think.

2. I will a good enough job with the blog that at the end of the year, I will turn it into a book. Voila – Eden’s scrapbook resolved.

So… here is the belated blog for today… We had a fun few days this weekend at Mema and Papa’s house, as well as going to the wedding of our friends Mike Swanson and Katie Konrad (well, Sky and I went to the wedding – the girls hung out in Morris). Averhy was excited to have a date with Mema – they went to see Horton Hears a Who and enjoyed it thoroughly! Eden hung out with Papa and napped… On Sunday, I had a photo shoot up in Plainfield before we headed home. Oh, and we finally got a new little point and shoot (I dropped our old one in November, so we’ve just been using my pro one…) So here are shots from the weekend as we get used to the camera.

Fun at the wedding! (top: Andy, John, Sky; front: Gina, Allyson, Dave)

Okay, getting these pictures in place and the right size is tricky sometimes… so wish me luck in this new resolution, and hopefully you’ll hear from me again on Friday!!

March 20, 2008 - 3:36 pm Mema - I love the picture of you and Eden. It is so soft looking. Good luck on keeping your blog up, but don't beat yourself up if you don't. You are doing much more important things. Blessings, julie

A nice day to take a walk

Thursday was such a nice day that we decided to take a walk. And Eden decided to join us – for about 6 steps in the morning, and then again for 7 or 8 steps several times in the evening! That’s right, Eden is walking!! Here’s one…
and here’s another…

I’m excited that she’s starting to walk just as the weather is FINALLY getting nice. This has been such a long winter and we are all ready to get outside again and enjoy some fresh air.

March 17, 2008 - 4:19 pm Mema - Hooray!!! Sorry she wouldn't walk for us, but it will come. Thanks for spending time with us. See you in a couple of weeks. mema
