Once the foundations were set, we were ready to have the swingset arrive! So on Thursday at 1pm, we watched as the steel frame arrived on a flatbed truck (thank you Prairie State Steel!), and was lifted off and transported to its new home in our backyard (thank you Broeren-Russo forklift!). The girls didn’t like the noisy forklift so much, but were entertained by the whole process (and their popsicles as well). It took a few tries to decide what to do at first — Sky’s original plan was to set the frame by the driveway and then move it by hand using a pallet jack, but that turned out to be too precarious (the frame is a bit top-heavy, and threatened to tip over). So the forklift just carried it all the way to the footings, and set it in place! Next step – paint!
our swingset adventure… part 2
May 28, 2009 - 9:30 am - i like how averhy's butt is nice and blue.
May 25, 2009 - 8:32 pm - Love the chalk on the porch and the girls bottoms.
May 25, 2009 - 5:54 pm - Can we come play???
our swingset adventure… part 1
For the girls’ birthdays this year, we decided to give them a swingset (from us and both sets of grandparents)… and it’s finally happening! Here are a few shots from last week, when Sky got the footings poured… Oh, did I forget to mention that this is going to be the most over-designed swingset ever? Made of welded steel? Yep! More to follow soon…
May 27, 2009 - 10:19 am - Yeah, ours is wooden...huge, but wooden. Yours looks massive. I have never seen one like that.
May 26, 2009 - 7:54 pm - Amy -- yep, Sky designed it and had it framed up through work connections... Amanda -- it is definitely taking us more than 3 days and WAY more than 12.5 hours!!
May 26, 2009 - 6:05 pm - Where do you even begin to find a swingset like that? It is very cool. I can't wait to see it complete. Are there companies out there that make these and you buy them and put them together or is it something that Sky came up with on his own (through work connections)?
May 25, 2009 - 7:35 am - We just did the same thing for Maggie's birthday and it took 3 days for my brother to get it finished...and my friend and I 2 1/2 hours of laying out and labeling all of the parts beforehand. Good Luck!
Averhy’s first sleepover
On Friday after school, Addi and Mikiah came over to play for the afternoon (Molly and I swap childcare once a week) and then Addi spent the night with us! The girls were excited about their first sleepover, complete with all the fun things that a sleepover must include… a movie (Disney’s “Valiant” that we checked out from the library), pizza in the living room while watching the movie, popcorn for dessert, bedtime stories, sharing pj’s (since Addi forgot hers at home!), getting to whisper and giggle in Averhy’s big bed until about 9:30 before finally falling asleep. And then of course at a sleepover you have to wake up early and start the day with cartoons and cereal… fun times! We’re already looking forward to next time!
May 12, 2009 - 9:45 pm - Hold the phone...is that cottage cheese and bananas with the pizza?! Ohhhh, such good unspoiled-by-commercialism-and-sleepover-stereotypes children those are. :)
May 10, 2009 - 8:54 pm - Averhy - what fun! Can you come here for a sleepover soon?
neighborhood friends
Eden loves her friend Maggie, who lives right across the street. Nearly every day Eden asks “Maggie house?” and wants to go play in Maggie’s sandtable… or playroom… or now, to visit Maggie’s new baby brother! We’re going to have a fun summer ahead of us, I can just tell!
April 28, 2009 - 12:15 pm - I think there's some mischief ahead.
April 24, 2009 - 2:30 pm - I'm so glad we are neighbors!!!!
more spring fun
We love being outside on these gorgeous days… and picking flowers is always on the agenda…
April 23, 2009 - 10:40 pm - In His image.
learning to read
Last Wednesday, Averhy read a book all by herself!! It was called “See Otto” and we got it from the library – actually we got 3 Otto books and I’m looking forward to her reading more of them! To celebrate, we went to Nitaya (she calls it “Thai Restaurant”) for lunch on Thursday with Daddy… yummy chicken pad thai and chicken satay with peanut sauce…
Oh, and I have to write this one down so I never forget it… on Saturday night, as we were all sitting on Averhy’s bed saying our evening prayer together, her prayer was, “Dear Jesus, thank you for my Mommy, and thank you for making me look like her. Amen.” If that doesn’t make your heart melt, nothing will…
April 21, 2009 - 11:53 pm - i'm glad God made me look like you, too.
April 21, 2009 - 12:37 am - I let slip a little clouds-parting-angels-singing "ahhhh!" when I saw the pad thai picture. And an "awww" about the prayers story. :)
April 20, 2009 - 9:42 pm - if I am spellng tings wrong, it's bcase I can't seee through my teaars...gotta' love those grandkids :)
April 20, 2009 - 9:00 pm - And He made you both beautiful! (oh, and Eden, too)
April 20, 2009 - 8:02 pm - You should sell that pad thai shot to Nitaya. It looks delicious (in spite of the lack of coconut milk and thai curry) :)
April 20, 2009 - 6:11 pm - What a love. Thanks for sharing the story.
