take a peek at the family behind Sweet Pea Photography...

Most of the time when I look through my viewfinder, I see someone else's family...  so this blog gives me a new reason/excuse/opportunity to pick up my camera and see the people I love most in this world... my family!  Thanks for joining me here - isn't the view beautiful?!

I wanted to ask you that…

This is Averhy’s most common phrase lately.  What she means to say is “I was wondering…”  – as in “I wanted to ask you that can we go swimming today?”  And swimming is a popular activity on hot days like today. Although she has a blast playing with her friend Lizzie in their kiddie pool next door, Averhy was less than excited to get in the pool for swimming lessons on Monday. Not sure why, exactly… she’s been taking lessons pretty much once a week for the past year, and this week was the first time she was afraid to get in the water.  I guess she remembers going under the water (a bit out of control) near the end of the last session of lessons.  Oh, well.  I ended up going in the pool with her on Wednesday for her entire lesson, and she really did great – as long as I was touching her back or holding her tummy.  Hopefully the fear will fade quickly!

Another example… “I wanted to ask you that can I feed Eden?”  Yes, this past week Eden got her first taste of real food – sweet potatoes!  She quickly got the hang of it, and now is very excited each time we plop her into her bouncy seat and bring out the yummy stuff!  I think that time speeds up and passes more quickly every day.   It’s hard for me to believe that four months have already gone by since Eden was born!!  I think I’ll go get her up from her nap a bit early today, so we can just sit and snuggle in the rocking chair…

June 19, 2007 - 7:31 pm sweetpeaphotography - Thankfully, Averhy is back to her normal self re: swimming... so much so that I asked the lessons coordinator if she could be put in a different class tomorrow. They had put her in a class with 4 other kids who were afraid of the water... but since she spent the entire lesson this Monday asking "can I go first??" and showing the teachers how she can put her whole face under water with her eyes open, I think they could see her fear was not the norm. (Now hopefully she won't prove me wrong tomorrow night...)

June 18, 2007 - 8:44 pm Mema - So, how did swimming lessons go tonight?

Wet and Soggy

We had a great time over Memorial Day weekend!  On Friday morning, Averhy rode with Mema and Papa down to their house in Kentucky and had a fun day hanging out with them all by herself.  Then Sky, Eden, and I headed out after Sky got home from work.  It’s a 4 1/2 hour drive, but Eden slept most of the way (the ride home was not as peaceful, but oh well…).  Saturday was gorgeous, and after Papa and Sky got back from golfing, we had fun riding around the neighborhood on Papa’s new golf cart… finally… after convincing Averhy that it was safe and not too loud!  We also borrowed a neighbor’s pontoon boat and explored Lake Barkley a bit.  After church on Sunday, we took the boat out again – this time Averhy wore her swimsuit and got in the water with Papa… but only for a few seconds!  She wanted to get right back in the boat, declaring that the water was “too wet and too soggy!”  Thanks for a fun weekend, Mema and Papa!

June 2, 2007 - 8:48 pm Mema - I'm sorry the ride home wasn't a peaceful one for you. Who was upset, Averhy or Eden? We loved having you and look forward to more visits as we make it a more fun place to be. And we hope Averhy will begin to enjoy to golf cart. Love, Mema

Pickles & Peaches

Continuing the interesting food theme… Averhy requested pickles and a peach for breakfast today… yum? She’s such a goofball.  But the request was granted, largely because she is also feeling not so hot lately.  Tuesday night was a sleepless one – I actually spent most of the night in Averhy’s bed with her, rubbing her back every time she woke up crying from vivid dreams as a result of a fever.  She tends to talk in her sleep when she’s sick… lot of comments like “That is my purse! … and God wants us to share!”  So the cuteness of it makes it more bearable at 3am…

So yesterday morning we headed to the doctor instead of the park… and good thing, because it turns out that Averhy has an ear infection! She was very upset when the doc had to clean out her ear to take a closer look… ouch!! Never dealt with this before, so we’ll see how it all goes.  She likes the orange medicine, at least!

Big Apple

We’ve enjoyed two types of big apples lately…

Last Friday, I went to NYC for the day (yes, just for the day – thanks to a cheap flight on Southwest!) to attend a Photoshop CS2 seminar by Ben Willmore.  It was excellent and really gave me a handle on some aspects of my new Photoshop CS2 program that I certainly could not figure out on my own. I’m excited to start using them, although I wish I had a photographic memory… right now I spend too much time looking back at the handbook!

The other big apple was a nice red delicious that Averhy chose for breakfast this morning. Yep, just an apple. Not cut into slices… just “a big apple. Like we had at the concert by Ralph’s World.”  (Averhy has  such an amazing memory. She was describing a lunch concert that she and I attended at Krannert Center in October where we ate a whole apple as part of our lunch.  Then in December we attended a concert by Ralph’s World, also at Krannert Center.  I wish I had her memory – then I’d only make one trip to the grocery store instead of three!)

May 18, 2007 - 1:20 pm sweetpeaphotography - Huh! I thought the "filed under" links were just within my blog... I guess they link to any wordpress blog that uses that keyword. Obviously, I don't know as much about blogging as one might think!! It is cool to see that Averhy is the only Averhy, though!

May 17, 2007 - 6:24 pm Mema - When I click on the word photography under filed under, it takes me to a bunch of photographers. Are some of your pictures there? I couldn't find any.

May 17, 2007 - 6:21 pm Mema - Thanks for sharing the stories. And what a great journaling tool. We love you guys! Mema

Just rolling around…

Today Eden mastered rolling from her back to her tummy… or perhaps I should say “last night”.  When I went it to feed her at 4am, she was on her tummy… and again when she woke up this morning!  So now playing on her back on the floor turns into tummy time!  I guess we definitely can’t leave her lying on the bed anymore…

Do you see a girl dancing?

Many of Averhy’s little activities begin this way lately… “Do you see a girl in a yellow dress?” “Do you see a princess walking?”   She prefers wearing her yellow flower dress every day, and since it’s just a hand-me-down (thanks, Janean!) that doesn’t get worn elsewhere, I don’t mind if she gets mud pies and grass stains all over it.  So most days, the yellow dress it is…  and barefoot too.

She is growing an apple tree, started from a seed that she planted in a cup – an activity they did at church one morning.  So today we are going to replant it in a larger pot.  Averhy loves checking on her apple tree every day and counting the leaves (3 so far, with 1 more budding).  Today she said that butterflies will like to live in her apple tree when it gets bigger.  Such fun!
