take a peek at the family behind Sweet Pea Photography...

Most of the time when I look through my viewfinder, I see someone else's family...  so this blog gives me a new reason/excuse/opportunity to pick up my camera and see the people I love most in this world... my family!  Thanks for joining me here - isn't the view beautiful?!

4th of July – Kentucky style

Just a few shots from a great weekend at Mema and Papa’s “Kentucky house” as Averhy calls it… We left home Thursday evening, with Mema riding down with us – the girls all enjoyed watching movies in the back of the van the whole trip. Then each day followed pretty much the same routine, with minor calamities thrown in… get up, eat breakfast, Sky and Papa would go get the boat ready, then we’d all go boating/tubing/wakeboarding for a while until one of the following would happen: a) the tow rope would get sucked into the jets and rip and tangle up so Sky and Papa would have to jump in and untangle it (Friday); b) the engine would inexplicably die so Sky and Papa would have to swim and pull the boat to shore (Saturday); c) the low battery buzzer would not stop beeping so Sky and Papa would have to take the boat back to the dock (Sunday). Then after a/b/c happens, we’ll spend time swimming and playing in the water for a while, either at the dock or on the beach. Next, we’d head home for a late lunch around 3pm, relax for a while indoors and out, then have a late supper and head to bed. Definitely a fun weekend that will be remembered! Thanks Mema and Papa!

free saturday

I scheduled a free Saturday for myself today, so the girls and I went to the Farmer’s Market in Urbana! (unfortunately, Sky had to go into work for a while so he missed out. Bummer.) We got some cherries from our friend Masha (thanks Masha!) and ran into our friend Jennifer while we got some ice cream from the Sidney Dairy Barn stand. Then we sat and listened to a fiddle player while we ate our treats. Excellent music, gorgeous weather, and happy girls dancing around – that’s the recipe for a great Saturday morning!

fun on the boat

We had a great time sailing on Grandma and Grandpa’s boat this weekend – our annual birthday weekend sail for me! The weather was a bit chilly, but the wind and waves were absolutely perfect. We got up to 7.1 knots (tied the current record for Jubilee) and no annoying bugs in sight. Eden and Averhy both fell asleep during the sail (as usual) and then Averhy, Grandpa, and Allyson went for a quick dinghy ride before heading home. A great weekend!

previously

Gotta love a girl with crazy hair… who was previously sleeping with a little ponytail-ball on top of her head… who previously had wet hair… who was previously playing in water on the porch on a hot day… We went to the library yesterday, and one of the books we checked out is called “Previously” – it tells a bunch of fairy tale stories backwards, and it made me smile. My girls make me smile too.

make two bunny ears…

So the girls decided to have a little shoe party the other night while Sky and I cleaned up the supper table… and then Sky tried to teach Averhy how to tie her shoes. She actually stayed pretty calm and patient, although she never could get those silly bunny ears to stay tied together. The past few days have been full of visits to the pool (Averhy is in swimming lessons) and wiping runny noses and teary eyes (Eden has a cold and is getting another tooth – poor miserable kiddo), so no other shoe fashion shows lately. Hopefully everyone will be feeling good tomorrow and we can really enjoy the day! Oh- and one funny quote from Averhy… as she was singing (as always) a few mornings ago, her lyrics included “and we can visit George Washington… and he can cook a bucket of soup…” Where she comes up with these things, I have no idea!!

June 17, 2008 - 3:07 am Aunt Melanie - i love the song, it's definitely a hit. sky, you tie your shoes with the bunny ears? that's not how i learned. weird.

friday night fun

Friday night is usually movie night at our house, but tonight was so pleasant outside that we made pizzas on the grill (as evidenced by the pizza sauce on their faces) and just played around on the deck instead of watching a movie…  although I’m sure we’re going to hear about it from Averhy once she realizes…

June 8, 2008 - 9:02 pm mema - I would like to get that recipe from you sometime. Did Averhy realize she didn't watch a movie? Thanks, julie

June 7, 2008 - 10:39 pm Allyson - tasty! it's the second time we've made them - just from a recipe on the bag of wheat flour...

June 7, 2008 - 10:00 pm mema - So much fun. Pizzas on the grill! Never heard of it. How did it come out? mema
