This week’s challenge — find some beautiful natural light and use it!! (And since I only shoot with natural/available light, that wasn’t much of a challenge… so I decided to find some not-so-beautiful natural light and make it look great!) So.. the setting here is inside a rather dark entryway to an old farmhouse, with the door open to let in some natural light — even though it was rainy and cloudy outside…
Here’s what my busy subject let me capture… first, a bit of peek-a-boo; then sad puppy-dog eyes when I told him that it was almost time for me to leave; then a smile when I agreed to stay a few minutes longer…
Just a quick technical note too… notice the orange tone on the left side of his face in that top right image? (Not the post-processing “seventies” look of the images — that’s just for fun…) The orange color cast is caused by the incandescent light that wasn’t turned off yet… mixed lighting is never fun to deal with, so when you’re taking pictures of your kids — remember to consider what types of light are around you. Even though the main source of light was the sunlight shining in the door, the little lightbulb on the ceiling had an effect too… so once that was turned off, the tones in the other images are more consistent and look a lot better.
Next week I’m going to start a different little project on the “off” weeks for develop: on fridays… it’s a one-word challenge that a photographer friend of mine started on Flickr, and it has been fun so far… so I thought I’d share it with you! Until then, have a great weekend!
jodi - allyson, how do you do it???!!…i was right there in the same entry & can’t believe how sweet these are! the b&w one is just like the one you shot of him @ 1 year!! darling!
btw…i shot some photos outside yesterday (lots of sun) w/ thumper in the grass and they were overexposed so i wimped out & put my camera back on auto setting!!
i can’t wait to see the rest of your shots from this day!!!!!:)
Dave - Also thought the “orange” might be the reflection of the light off the door. The brown/orange could be coming form there, too.
