This week’s assignment was all about ANGLE… and how shooting from different angles communicates different things to the viewer. So, the assignment was as follows: shoot one thing from at least FIVE different angles. Consider and pay attention to what each angle “feels” like to you – and what it’s saying about the subject. Here are my results…
My first attempt was with a moving subject who wasn’t completely in the mood to be photographed, which made it a little more tricky (but is also something that I have to deal with quite often… the difference is that it is MUCH more difficult to stay patient with my own children, and they don’t find my little “tricks” nearly as funny or interesting as my clients do!!) Anyway… the first angle is straight-on, not too interesting… then I started getting in closer (which I love)… then really close… then backing off and down… then just to the other side for a different type of light. My favorite shots of these are the second and third, because I love getting in close to see the details…
For my second attempt, I wanted to use a completely boring and mundane subject, to see if I could make it interesting simply through the use of angle… enter the dishwasher full of clean dishes. The boring shot is first, then I got down low, and from above, and from way above, and then getting in really close. Once again, the super close-up is my favorite, followed by the shot from way above (I like the colors in that one especially)…
So… surprise, surprise… I keep coming back to the detail shots and the bright colors! If you read the week 2 assignment, I guess it’s not really a surprise after all…
I am a little bummed though, because the develop on fridays assignments are now just getting posted every other week — so on the in-between weeks I’m going to make up my own assignments to keep my creative juices flowing! If you have any suggestions, please feel free to let me know and I might use them…
